WAGS
- The Freedom
played in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League for the first time in
the Fall of 2007 scoring 26 goals to finish undefeated with 7 wins,
0 loses and 2 ties. For the spring, 2008 WAGS seeded seventy-two
U12 girls travel teams from D.C., Maryland and Virginia into seven
competitive divisions. The Freedom were selected to play in
Division 3 with the Arlington Flame, BRYC Axiom, BRYC Phoenix, CSA
Alliance, DC Stoddard Mischief, Herndon Curve, McLean Green Fury,
Olney Cyclones, Reston Strikers and Stafford Sparks.
FIFA'S FUTSAL® - The Freedom play
FIFA's 5-A-Side Futsal game in the winter to better learn how
to create even more goals in both Futsal and soccer. In Brasil
and in
many parts of the world Futsal is used to teach players to create
goals, the self confidence to possess (keep) the ball while
looking for teammates to work with and to move to support teammates
instantly both on offense and defense.
FIFA'S
BEACH SOCCER - The Freedom
plays FIFA's 5-A-Side Beach Soccer game in the summer mostly just
because it's fun. In areas where Beach Soccer can be played year
round
it plays a significant role in player conditioning and teaches players
the subtle touch required to handle the ball in the air.
PICTURE
PERFECT -
The Freedom are learning
the techniques and match understanding required to be comfortable with
the ball, to make decisions for themselves and to be successful.
It's the self-confidence to control the ball, look for teammates in a
better position than they are in and to make decisions that gives each
player and the team the best opportunity to succeed. The goal is
to teach every girl to be just a little better, every day, one day at a
time.
Luis, who trains the girls in the
summer, is a former Assistant National Team Coach and Professor in the
Teaching Methodology of Futebol and Futsal at Sao Paulo University in
Brasil. Luis is currently in Japan developing a new National
Youth Training Program for the Japanese Football
Federation. Luis has visited our area for six years to work
with Division I and II NCSL and WAGS teams.
